The “Bassa”: Castles and good food

This tour, appropriate for groups and families, offers an overview of the placid landscape of the “Bassa” along the banks of the Po River, marked by the presence of splendid castles and important gastronomic productions. Among the possible itineraries are:

  • Tour of a cheese factory (Parmigiano Reggiano PDO) and the Sanvitale Castle of Fontanellato
  • Tour of a company producing Culatello and of the Meli Lupi Castle of Soragna
  • Tour of the places that permeated the life and works of Guareschi and Verdi: at Fontanelle, the Museum of the Little World recounts the life of Giovannino Guareschi and the birth of the characters of the saga of Don Camillo and Peppone. Guareschi rests in the small cemetery of Roncole Verdi, next to the birthplace of Verdi and the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel.

Hilly route of castles with gourmet stopovers

The hilly countryside to the south of Parma is adorned with vineyards and offers unique panoramas. Found there is the Castle of Torrechiara, production of Malvasia and of “PDO” Parma Ham.

We offer a guided tour of the Castle of Torrechiara, followed by crossing a vineyard to reach the wine cellar where we will have lunch before touring a Parma Ham production centre.
